Professor Hildreth (Ph.D., University of Minnesota, 2005) joined the SIUC faculty in Fall 2005. He teaches courses in political theory and American
politics. His research interests include democratic theory, the pragmatist
philosophy of John Dewey, youth civic engagement, and transnational
activism. He is co-author with Ross Velure Roholt and Michael Baizerman of
Becoming Citizens: Deepening the Craft of Youth Civic Engagement (Hawarth
Press, 2008). Current projects include finishing a book manuscript entitled
Living Citizenship: John Dewey, Civic Engagement, and the Renewal of
Democracy and conducting a research project on Transnational Civic
Engagement.
